  • ...while DVD-RW, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM are economical backup solutions, individual users remain responsible for putting backup rotation schemes in place and for keeping track of the media. With individual tapes' total data capacity well below that of hard drives found in today's PCs, backups would often have to span multiple tapes, making these tasks even more of a chore. Online backup services make more sense.

  • Neglecting to back up data on a regular basis is one of the most common mistakes SMBs make, says Aberdeen Group vice president David Hill. The second-biggest mistake is not having a rotation policy for sending tapes or other media offsite for disaster-recovery protection.

  • Consider just how much time, money, and effort it would take to recover a system whose files were destroyed by mechanical failure, a virus attack, or user error. Also consider how much money you would lose simply because of downtime. A major purpose of backing up is to avoid such expenses.

How Obar4u Works?

Installation and Set Up:

After you sign up for Obar4u account, you will download and install the software onto your computer or your server. After installation of the software, you will choose a unique encryption key that will be used to encrypt all of your files. You will then set up your backup sets, which are the list of files that you want to backup and the times that you want to do backups. Setting up backup sets is easy, and you have complete control over your backups.

Backups start automatically:

From then on, as long as your computer is on and functioning, backups will start automatically according to the schedule that you have set. While backups are typically scheduled during the night when there are few people using their computers, backups have little or no impact on your computer's performance and your ability to access the Internet. With Obar4u, you also have the option of manually starting a backup at any time.

Your computer is searched:

When a backup starts, your hard drive is first scanned for any files contained in your backup set that are new or have changed since your last backup. Only these files need to be transmitted, minimizing the time it takes to perform a backup as well as minimizing your valuable bandwidth.

Files are compressed:

Once our software identifies a file that needs to be backed up; it compresses the file using industry leading compression technology. Compression ensures that not only do backups take shorter but that you limit the amount of storage space that you use on our servers, thus saving you money.

Files are encrypted
:

After being compressed; each file is individually encrypted using your unique 256 bit encryption key. Because your encryption key is stored only on your computer and is never transmitted over the Internet, no one but you ever has access to your files.

Sent securely over the Internet:

For added security, each encrypted file is then sent over the Internet via a secure channel using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, the same Internet transmission technology that is used for online banking.

Stored in multiple data centers
:

All of your files are sent to two secure data centers, located hundreds of miles apart from each other. Each data center has 24/7 monitoring, advanced security technology such as biometric access controls, backup generators and redundant connections to the Internet.

Restoring your files is easy:

Any backup method is only as good as its ability to retrieve files. This is just as true for online backup. With our service, restoring files can be done in just a few clicks of your mouse. You have the ability to retrieve your files at any time and as often as you need to. Using our software, you simply click on the individual files or folders that you want to retrieve and they will be restored to your hard drive. And if the need arises after a system failure, you can perform a full recovery and retrieve all of your backed up files just as easily.

Compliance

Sarbanes-Oxley, FINRA, HIPAA, and other regulations mandate safeguards surrounding the backup, privacy, and availability of sensitive information and certain records.  Obar4u goes to extreme lengths to be commercial-grade, offering all the access and security controls regulated industries desire.
